Rangers face serious competition for Norwegian talent Jens Hjerto-Dahl after Cardiff City had a £5.5 million bid rejected by Tromso.
Derek McInnes' side reportedly had a £5 million offer knocked back for the 20-year-old last week, with Tromso determined to hold out for their £7.5 million asking price.
And newly-promoted English Championship side Cardiff have joined several clubs in Europe desperate to land the highly-rated midfielder.
Both Rangers and Cardiff are now weighing up whether to return to Norway to make improved offers for Hjerto-Dahl.
Tromso sports director Lars Petter Kraemer-Andressen said: "There have been negotiations over the past week.
"We'll see what happens, it could take a while.
"Several clubs are interested, but a lot has to fall into place for something to happen.
"If he's going to move on, it has to be a club Jens wants to go to and we also have pretty high expectations for the price.
"So it's not certain he'll leave.
"But if he does, we have a lot of good players, so we won't be much worse off if Jens disappears.
"Then we'll always be in the market and alert if something is interesting for us."
Hjerto-Dahl has already revealed he would rather sign for Rangers than Besiktas, who were previously credited with an interest.
He is under contract for another three years with Tromso and has scored six goals and provided two assists this season so far.
