Rangers issue strict no pyro warning to travelling fans ahead of Hearts clash

Rangers have released a firm warning to supporters about the use of pyrotechnics in football stadia ahead of their Scottish Premiership clash with Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday.

This comes after several incidents in recent weeks of fans letting off the devices.

On Thursday during the 1-1-draw with French side Lyon, Gers supporters made a joke about the ‘festival of light’ that threatened to hamper their trip.

The club have made supporters aware that extra police and stewards will be searching them prior to entering the stadium.

They also point out that anyone found using them or found in possession of them will subsequently be arrested.

The statement said: "We would like to remind supporters that the use of pyrotechnics is strictly prohibited in football stadiums across Europe.

"It is important that supporters are mindful of the potential for serious injury including loss of limbs or fingers due to their explosive power.

"Pyrotechnics can burn at up to 2000 degrees centigrade which can cause further significant injuries including loss of sight or hearing as well as having carcinogenic emissions.

"Put simply, there is no safe way to use pyrotechnics and we ask supporters to refrain from usage.

"On Sunday, there will be additional police officers and stewards on duty at Tynecastle Stadium.

"All visiting supporters should expect to be searched. Police Scotland are clear that anyone found in possession of such devices or who discharge them in or around the stadium will be arrested forthwith."

Rangers go to Edinburgh unbeaten under new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

However, the Jam Tarts have a good record at home to the Ibrox side in recent years.
