Rangers injury boost as Nikola Katic on track for shock return from horror injury

Nikola Katic is set to return in the New Year as he steps up his recovery from injury.

The Rangers defender ruptured his ACL just three weeks prior to the season starting and when further exmained, he had also torn ligaments and both meniscus in his knee.

It was devasting blow for the Croatian and the Ibrox club, but he surprisingly targeted a January return.

And according to Katic's agent, Ives Cakarun, the 24-year-old is on course to regain full fitness for the start of 2021, which would give a huge boost to Steven Gerrard.

He told the Daily Record: “All is going well.

“We hope Nikola will be ready for January. It was a big operation, cruciate ligaments and both meniscus.”

Katic showed signs from last season that he was ready for a breakthrough year this term.

But his setback derailed those hopes and the centre-half admitted the break in football due to the coronavirus pandemic could have played a part in his injury.

He said at the time: “It’s possible the injury happened because of the extent of the break we had, but we will never know.

“It’s certainly not the same training at home, as with the team.

“I think the long break created problems and if you look at Germany for example, we saw there were many injuries after the first game back there.”
