Rangers in touching Bertie Auld tribute as club send Celtic sympathy after sad passing

Rangers sent Celtic a touching tribute to former player Bertie Auld after the Lisbon Lion passed away aged 83.

A European Cup winner in 1967, Auld had two spells at Parkhead as a player between 1955 and 1971.

In that time he also lifted five league titles, three Scottish Cups and four League Cups.

Auld also won the English League Cup with Birmingham City and earned three Scotland caps.

He then led both Partick Thistle and Hibs back to the top flight as a manager and later in life was a much-loved matchday figure at Celtic Park, regularly meeting with fans .

Auld's sad death has touched all corners of our game and Celtic's old rivals expressed their condolences on Sunday evening.

A statement from Rangers read: "Everyone at Rangers FC express sadness and pass on their sympathy to the Auld family and Celtic FC at the passing of former player, Bertie Auld."
