Rangers in talks with ‘big talent’ over Ibrox contract amid transfer rumours as boss roars 'he will be an important player'

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst says the Ibrox club are in talks over a new deal for Uddingston's Alex Lowry.

Newcastle United and Manchester City have been linked with moves for the teenage midfielder this month.

While rumours of a new six-figure deal at the Premiership champions were debunked recently, the former Barcelona star has confirmed negotiations on an extended stay are ongoing.

The Lanarkshire teenager has emerged as one of Rangers' brightest talents after four senior appearances and a fantastic season in their Lowland League 'B' team.

Contracted to the Light Blues until 2023, van Bronckhorst hopes to have 'positive' news in weeks to come.

The Dutchman said: "Alex is one of the big talents we have coming through from the academy.

"We are in talks for him to sign a new contract because I think he will be an important player for the future of this club.

"Talks are in process so hopefully, we will have positive news in the coming weeks."
