Rangers in surprise fixture shuffle as two Premiership clashes are brought forward

Two Scottish Premiership clashes involving Rangers have been brought forward in a surprise fixture shuffle.

Steven Gerrard's men will visit St Johnstone on Wednesday, December 23, with the match originally pencilled in for a regular 7.45pm slot.

But now that game will be played at 6pm on the same day with the SPFL confirming a mutual agreement to bring the game forward the the request of both sides.

With the clash less than a fortnight away it's a surprisingly late change to the schedule and there is a further switch to another Light Blues clash next month, this time at the request of broadcaster Sky Sports.

That sees the Ibrox club's New Year visit to Aberdeen on Sunday, January 10 brought forward to 3pm, from an original kick-off time of 4.30pm.

It's not known what the reasoning is behind the match in Perth but at least the teams appear to be in agreement - which wasn't the case in a recent fixture storm involving Hibs and Celtic.

The Hoops requested their home game against Hibs on Saturday, January 9 be put back to Monday, January 11 to attend a training camp - and the league body accepted the proposal without the Edinburgh club's blessing.
