Rangers in SPFL evidence warning as Ibrox club 'hold out for independent investigation'

Rangers are reportedly refusing to hand over evidence of alleged SPFL wrong-doing until an independent inquiry is established.

In an explosive statement on Saturday the Ibrox club called for chief executive Neil Doncaster to be suspended as they expressed "serious concerns" about the governance of the SPFL.

The governing body hit back and instructed Rangers to either provide evidence or withdraw their allegations.

Now The Athletic reports that the Premiership club are refusing to hand over any more evidence until an investigation is opened.

On Friday clubs voted on a motion to end the lower league seasons with the tables as they stand, while giving the SPFL the power to take the same decision for the top flight at a later date.

The Premiership plus Leagues One and Two passed the proposal with the required 75 per cent of clubs in favour.

However, in the Championship the plan was not passed.

Of the 10 teams, six voted in favour while Partick Thistle and Inverness voted against.

Dundee had told those two clubs that they would also vote against, and the Sunday Mail has seen evidence of a signed voting slip by John Nelms.

However, the SPFL insist they never received that vote and as a result the motion was neither passed nor struck down.

Rangers had put forward a resolution of their own which stated that the SPFL would loan money to clubs equivalent to the prize money they would receive at the end of the season.

However, that motion was deemed "not competent".

That kicked off a war of words which culminated in Saturday's statement from Ibrox calling on Doncaster to be suspended.
