Rangers in monumental fan boost as 23k to be welcomed back to Ibrox for beginning of Premiership title defence

23,000 Rangers fans will be present when their title defence officially gets under way this weekend.

Steven Gerrard's champions raise the curtain on the new Premiership season when they host Livingston at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.

It's an increase from capacities at the weekend during the friendly double header against Brighton and Real Madrid.

8,500 were initially permitted for those games though supporters received a late boost after more tickets were released following further talks with Glasgow City Council.

Following those matches the club have been in further discussions with the Council over the return to league action.

And those talks have been successful, meaning Ibrox will be at just under half capacity for the beginning of the season with the largest attendance in Scotland by far since the pandemic halted football in March 2020.

Moments after the Gers announcement, rivals Celtic also revealed they'll welcome 24,500 fans to Parkhead for their first home league fixture against Dundee.

Fans successful in the draw for tickets are now being notified by email.
