Rangers in late pre-season schedule update as Premier League side reveal Steven Gerrard test

Burnley have confirmed they have been added to Rangers pre-season fixture list this summer.

It looks to be an action-packed few weeks for Steven Gerrard 's side as they prepare for their bid to defend the Premiership title and reach the Champions League qualifiers.

A friendly against English Premier League opposition, Arsenal has already been scheduled for July 17 but the Clarets under-23 side will be first up.

Academy boss Michael Jackson will take the his starlets to the Rangers Training Centre for a closed-door clash on July 14.

The champions already had six fixtures lined up before they begin the defence of their title at home to Livingston on July 31.

They got off to a positive start against Partick Thistle before Gerrard was left disappointed in defeat to Micky Mellon's Tranmere.

The Ibrox men will face off against Burnley and Arsenal, before travelling to Blackpool.

They will then welcome Brighton and Real Madrid to Govan before the big kick-off.

It looks set to be largely a youth team to face the Clarets but Burnley's statement indicates some first team stars may be involved: "Former Tranmere and Shrewsbury boss Michael Jackson is in temporary charge of the squad, which will be based at Stirling University, following Steve Stone’s move up to become first-team coach.

"Jackson, along with Andy Farrell, will lead the team against a Rangers’ side at the Scottish champions’ training ground on Wednesday afternoon."
