Rangers are reportedly in talks with Nottingham Forest over a £2.5million transfer deal to sign Jonathan Panzo.
It's claimed Michael Beale is keen on a swoop for the 22-year-old defender in the summer.
The Ibrox boss coached Panzo as a youngster at Chelsea and reportedly watched the defender in action numerous times last season.
Now, the Daily Record report Rangers chiefs are "edging closer" to finalising a £2.5m deal to bring Panzo to Ibrox.
The report claims Beale is looking to bolster his defensive options in the off-season by bringing in a left-sided centre-back.
It's thought Panzo fits the bill with Auston Trusty also linked with a switch to Rangers as part of Beale's major squad reconstruction this summer.
However, a move for Panzo is reportedly more likely with negotiations ongoing over a switch from Forest to Rangers.
Panzo had spent last season on loan with Coventry and could make a quickfire exit from Forest upon his return from loan in a permanent move north.
It's claimed Rangers are in pole position to land Panzo in the summer due to Beale's strong links with the player.
And discussions over a transfer deal are set to continue this week with another Ibrox connection - Ross Wilson who is sporting director for Forest.
