Rangers in clean sweep of SPFA award nominees with Ryan Kent on the shortlist

After providing all four nominees for the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award, Rangers have managed a clean sweep in the SPFA version as well.

Captain James Tavernier, goalkeeper Allan McGregor, Connor Goldson, Steven Davis and Ryan Kent make up the shortlist for the Scottish Professional Footballers Association award.

Davis is a previous winner, having picked up the gong during his first spell at Ibrox back in 2010.

Kent was nominated in 2019 while also winning that season's Young Player of the Year award.

McGregor and Tavernier have been regulars in Teams of the Season over the years but haven’t managed to claim any of the individual prizes.

Goldson and Davis are also in contention for the SWFA award, while Steven Gerrard could scoop the Manager of the Year. He does however face strong competition in Callum Davidson, who could claim a second trophy of the season.

The winners will be announced this Sunday, when the Gers will know whether they've managed to go the entire Premiership season unbeaten.

To do so, they only need to draw with Livingston tomorrow night before avoiding defeat against Aberdeen at home on Sunday in their final game of the campaign.
