Rangers icon Ally McCoist makes SPFL Armageddon prediction as he shares his 'absolute disaster' Hearts fear

Worried Ally McCoist believes a host of clubs will disappear if they are forced to play behind closed doors and reckons that outcome would be an "absolute disaster" for Hearts.

The Rangers icon reckons Ann Budge's proposed 14-14-14 SPFL league set-up for two years could work because it saves the Jambos, Partick Thistle and Stranraer from the drop.

The 57-year-old has consistently stated he believes the trio have been treated harshly in the wake of the season-ending vote and hopes clubs back the plan on the table.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "It would balance out the unfairness of Hearts being relegated.

"I don't agree with the concept of the relegation, I think it's so unfair on teams like Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stranraer."

Scottish football chiefs Neil Doncaster and Ian Maxwell have made it clear that Scottish football faces a battle of a lifetime to come through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Record Sport understands SPFL chief executive Doncaster is bracing himself for a series of monumental meetings next week as crisis talks are set to continue.

And the former Scotland international believes being forced to play games behind closed doors would be a monumental obstacle for Hearts and the rest to overcome.

He added: "It would be an absolute disaster for a team like Hearts.

"Down at the bottom of the pyramid, in England and Scotland, there will be, I'm not talking one or two, there will be a good number of clubs who will not be able to survive while playing games behind closed doors.

"I genuinely think that's going to be the case because a lot of the clubs down at the bottom of the pyramid rely heavily on their gates to survive.

"If they were asked to play games behind closed doors, I think it will be virtually impossible for them to survive."
