Rangers hit with three UEFA fines for Europa League disorder at Ibrox

Rangers have been hit with a combined fine of over €20,000 for a series of incidents in the stands during the Europa League clashes with Braga and Bayer Leverkusen.

UEFA slapped the Ibrox club with a €10,000 punishment after a fan invaded the pitch in February’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Braga in the round of 32 first leg in Govan.

And they topped that up with an extra €5,250 bill after fireworks were thrown on the pitch in the same game.

The governing body also handed down a €5,250 fine to Rangers after a glass Buckfast bottle was thrown onto the Ibrox pitch in this month’s 3-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

That came as the German team celebrated Leon Bailey’s 88th-minute goal.

The fines must be paid within 90 days.

Celtic were also fined €15,000 today after they were found to have been responsible for the late kick off of their last 32 tie away to Copenhagen.

Neil Lennon was censured for his part in that late kick off.

European football’s governing body hit Rangers with partial stadium closures earlier this season as a punishment for sectarian singing.

The qualifying tie against Legia Warsaw and the opening group game against Feyenoord went ahead with closed-off sections of 3000 seats.
