Rangers hit with Covid blow as positive tests confirmed ahead of Europa League trip

Rangers have confirmed people within the squad and coaching staff have tested positive for Covid-19.

Steven Gerrard's team are preparing for a Europa League trip to Armenia for a crucial Europa League playoff second leg against Alashkert.

They edged the first leg 1-0 at Ibrox but there is plenty of work still to do on their travels.

But they will travel in depleted numbers as a club statement confirmed positive tests.

There are also numerous close contacts who will have to self-isolate as a result.

It also puts the individuals in question in jeopardy for next weekend's key Premiership derby with Celtic.

A statement on the Rangers website reads: "Rangers can confirm that during our testing schedule, we have received positive COVID-19 tests.

"Those identified as positive are now in self isolation along with ‘close contacts’.

"We have followed best practice in our procedures and protocols. From the outset of the pandemic, Rangers has worked closely with the Scottish Government and Scottish football to ensure the health of our staff is protected at all times.

"We will continue to do so."
