Former Rangers hero Marvin Andrews insisted it was an easy decision to get the boots back on ahead of a fundraising match in Shotts next month.
Andrews, who won a league title and League Cup with the Ibrox club, is one of a number of former Gers stars who will be playing in the Gordon ‘Girny’ Thomson Memorial Cup at Hannah Park on June 14.
Last July, Gordon, a mental health support worker in the NHS, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and very sadly passed away within weeks with a Rangers Legends side taking on a Shotts Select to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Former Trinidad and Tobago international Andrews said: “It’s always great to pull on the blue shirt and get back playing but with a game like this it has special significance because I knew the person we are playing for.

“I have got to know Gordon’s brother Stuart very well over the last few years and met Gordon when he was down at a legends game in London for the late Ray Wilkins.
“If you talk to a lot of ex pro’s one of the main things they miss is the dressing room banter so I always enjoy playing in these games. If we can raise money for a fantastic cause then that is a blessing.”

After Gordon’s devastating diagnosis, his daughter Lauren, 25, brought forward her wedding for her dad but tragically the 62-year-old lost his battle one month before Lauren’s big day.
His brother Stuart will be bringing a host of ex Rangers heroes, including Marvin, to take on a Shotts side, which will include members of the side which won the Scottish Junior Cup a few years ago.

Ex-Ibrox star Alex Rae will also be pulling on the blue jersey in Shotts.
He said: “When a tragedy like this happens it gives you an insight into how cruel life can be sometimes.
“I know Stuart well so I know the impact this has had on the family and all we can do is play and raise a bit of money for a great cause.
“It’s great playing in these games. It’s always a fun night for the punters and it’s a chance for us to interact with the supporters.”
Rangers legends take on the Shotts select at Hannah Park, Shotts on Friday, June 14, at 7pm. Match tickets cost £10 (£5 for kids) are available from the Shotts Bon Accord Club, the John Murphy Shotts RSC/32 Club or on 07746 862504. Non locals can email tattietamson@hotmail.co.uk
