Rangers hero Ally McCoist in emotional Laura Woods tribute as she quits talkSPORT

Rangers icon Ally McCoist praised Laura Woods for making him feel “18 again” after the talkSPORT host revealed she would be leaving the show.

McCoist said that the pair would be “pals forever” after their popular partnership for over three years on the show.

A tearful Woods announced her exit from the weekday breakfast show with her departure to come at the end of the month. She paid a heartfelt tribute to McCoist, describing him as “the epitome of super.”

After taking over the role from Alan Brazil, the Breakfast Show’s main presenter back in 2020, Woods has been tipped to join TNT Sports as one of the main football presenters. She is rumoured to be replacing Jake Humphrey in the rebranding of BT Sport.

Woods and McCoist became a hugely popular double-act on the show after he joined her in the hot-seat for the majority of her shows.

“Ally, I wanted to say to you especially, I genuinely feel like I've won the lottery getting to work so closely with you like we do,” Laura said.

“When the entire world is talking about one sporting event, me and you just sit and these chairs and talk about it with each other. That's been the privilege of my life.

“I don't think you'll ever really know how much I've learned from just watching you and just being around you. All this natural warmth you have, and humour.

“You make me feel like I'm this kid watching A Question of Sport, in awe of you. That happens regularly.

“You are the epitome of super. You are just everything super. Thank you for always getting the best out of me, Ally McCoist.

“I don't think I'd be anywhere near the broadcaster I am today if it wasn't for you genuinely holding my hand.”

As the tears streamed down Laura’s face, McCoist offered his immediate reaction and said that they’ll be pals forever.

“I know I speak for everybody, it has been an absolute pleasure. I cannot tell you how much I have loved it. I have loved it from start to finish,” he said poignantly.

“I love you dearly, you've been a breath of fresh air. You've made feel 18 again, in the nicest possible way.

“On a Thursday, I feel 84 when I work with Brazil but you make me feel 18!

“There was an inevitability about it, dare I say it, because we all know you're going places and you're going to keep moving in a northerly direction.

“It doesn't make it any easier. We have had an absolute ball, I have loved every minute of the last three years and I know we'll be pals forever.”

Returning next Monday, Woods still has a few more appearances before she moves on with her final show alongside McCoist coming on Wednesday June 28.
