Rangers hero Alfredo Morelos hit with 'not the solution' verdict as Colombian media talk up strike rival

Rangers hero Alfredo Morelos has received a downbeat review ahead of Colombia's mammoth World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.

The 24-year-old climbed off the bench against Uruguay but was unable to find the net as La Tricolors suffered a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to their rivals.

And now leading Colombia outlet El Tiempo remarked Morelos was "not the solution" after he replaced Atalanta striker Luis Muriel in the second half.

The forward failed to score and didn't make an impact as the leading newspaper remarked fellow striker Edwin Cardona "should have come on earlier."

The Rangers star will be hoping to muscle his way into contention for the clash in Quito as he looks to improve on his record of one goal in nine international appearances for his country.

He has returned to form under Steven Gerrard in recent weeks and netted the winner against Lech Poznan in the Europa League.

Colombia boss Carlos Quieroz now faces a mammoth decision on who start with his side in need of points. They have only won one of their opening three games and a defeat against Ecuador would leave them with a uphill battle to reach the showpiece event set for Qatar in December 2022.
