Rangers have suffered 10 In A Row taunts for a decade but all that matters now is 55 - Hotline

Rangers are finally celebrating for real after another Celtic slip allowed Steven Gerrard and his players to slide into party mode.

A first title in a decade was wrapped up in sensational style and the dressing room scenes inside Ibrox after Saturday’s 3-0 win over St Mirren told their own story.

Celtic’s 10 In A Row dream finally died with Sunday’s goalless draw at Dundee United and that now means Rangers head to Parkhead as champions in the next fortnight.

And Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: “I can feel their hurt over here. All we've heard for a decade is 10 In A Row - the only number that matters now is 55.”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “I'd like to congratulate Rangers on winning the league, it's been a phenomenal season from Gerrard's men and I'm sure all Celtic fans will agree their team were never at the races. The record books now read 55 and I would like to mention that it's the earliest the title has been won since we've had so many games in a season.”

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, added: “Congratulations to Rangers. Best team by a mile this season but what a woeful attempt at 10 from Celtic. It’s going take a lot of rebuilding to get a team together to challenge next season. I’m sure plenty will be moaning about fans breaking COVID rules but let’s be honest if Celtic won the league it be just the same.”

And Alan McGaw, Alloa, said: “To think where we came from the Hamilton defeat a year ago to now. Steven Gerrard has done a fantastic job. It’s been a team performance - now go to Parkhead as champions. The stopping of 10 in a row was the challenge and now completed.”

Alfredo Morelos made it four goals in four games as the Buddies were blown away and Jake Curley emailed: “Alfredo is a true Rangers legend. No other foreign player has suffered such abuse, vindictiveness and persecution from every quarter of Scottish football. His link up play this season is perfect. He's making goals left right and centre. He’s showed what a truly gifted football player he is. Simply the best in Scotland by a country mile.”

Hotline regular Gordon Ashley is never far from controversy and his claim on Friday that Celtic fans aren’t gutted at losing the title sparked a backlash.

George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “It's comical to hear Gordon Ashley say he and his fellow Celtic supporters are not gutted by Rangers winning the league. He told us 10 In A Row will be the holy grail and greatest ever football achievement and Rangers supporters’ worst nightmare. Now because Celtic have imploded he is saying it didn't actually matter and Nine In A Row will do. The demonstrations and protests confirm that Celtic supporters are totally sick and disgusted.”

James Smith, Falkirk, added: “I nearly spilled my coffee when I read Gordon Ashley say ‘Celtic fans are not gutted’. Who's he trying to kid? You're gutted alright, but just won't admit it. A true fan would accept facts. Face it Gordon - Rangers were far superior this season to almost everyone and Celtic were rotten domestically and in Europe which will be a hard pill to swallow. And I don’t support either team.”

But right on cue, Gordon Ashley, Ayr, hit back with a guard of honour suggestion which is about as likely as his ‘not gutted’ comment.

He said: “Here is an idea that will test the class of both Glasgow clubs and end this argument once and for all. If Rangers clap us on at Parkhead in honour of our double Nine In A Row, Quadruple Treble and world’s first and only invincible Treble, we will clap them on as champions at Ibrox, with both clubs then joining together to applaud the NHS.”

Furious Hoops fan David Bryce, Troon, said: “What else can be said about this Celtic side? They are an absolute disgrace and none of them should survive this. The first season they get a real challenge they fold like a deck of cards. McGregor, Turnbull, Christie, Edouard, Brown are all a disgrace to the jersey and as for the board if they thought John Kennedy would improve things they are even more hapless than I thought!”

Finally, and onto the Celtic manager hunt, John Bruce emailed: “With David Moyes, Steve Clarke and Paul Lambert all having distanced themselves from the Celtic manager's job and Rapha Benitez being touted in Italy as a favourite to return to Napoli, the list of managers keen on the Parkhead hot seat appears to be getting smaller by the week. The new names mentioned appear to be getting smaller in stature and lacking experience too. So I think it's only fair to the Hoops fans to let them know that I've already made plans for next season.”
