Any hope of it being a Happy New Year for the Hotline were dashed as an unlikely argument broke out between Rangers and Nottingham Forest fans.
Supporters of the English Championship side have taken issue with the Ibrox outfit's claim that they will be the "first major European club" to reach 150-years-old as the double European Cup winners were founded in 1865.
Dean Ridgers, Barassie, said: "Not content with wiping out sections of their own history, the Ibrox club want to wipe out two of Nottingham Forest's proudest nights They might be able to match the arrogance of the late, great Brian Clough, but he won a couple of trophies they can only dream of, and they aren't bikes."
Frank Walker, Glasgow, said: "It was an unnecessary and inflammatory statement from Rangers and a disrespect to Forest and Clough. It's as though the people who now run the club are going out of their way to annoy and antagonise with all of these statements which we have come to expect. Forest may not have been a major force for a while now but neither have Rangers and given the dubious status of their recent history, it's a huge misstep by Rangers to start this row."
Rodger Temple, Loughborough, said: "Winning the European Cup twice is an achievement which blows Rangers out of the water in terms of stature as a club. It was a deluded and arrogant statement by a club which should be careful about going down the history road as it could be argued they are a new club."
Ciaran Mallon, Belfast, said: "Rangers supporters still moaning about the early winter break and the conspiracy theory that Celtic are behind it due to the injury crisis at Parkhead is all quite comical. What it says to me is that squeaky bum time has come early at Ibrox this season. As for manager of the month for December, I would argue that winning the first trophy of the season, going unbeaten in the league and winning in Europe makes Ange Postecoglou the outstanding candidate."
Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: "The SPFL have made such a mockery of this season by allowing clubs to try and reschedule fixtures, I hope next season, no matter what comes along, the SPFL play scheduled fixtures as they were meant to be should the government allow.
"Neil Doncaster obviously has issues somewhere as in 2008 the whole of Scottish football was told that games can't be rescheduled under any circumstances at a club's request. After this farce, surely it's time to have more than one person in charge as mistakes should be less common, that's if these have been mistakes."
Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: "I’d be surprised if Rangers make significant signings in this window, it all depends who, if anyone, is sold. Maybe the recruitment of a centre back and young winger is what's required."
John Bruce, emailed : "There's no doubt that Alfredo Morelos looks a much improved and a much happier player under Gio van Bronckhorst. This has been put down to Alfredo having been given 'a kick up the backside', but it could be down to a couple of other things.
"Firstly, Gio has been playing Alfredo in his favoured role as penalty box striker, rather than as a link-up man where he was deployed under Steven Gerrard. Secondly, Gio speaks Spanish. Who knows how much of a boost this has given Alfredo, having a boss who speaks to him fluently in his native tongue."
And finally.
William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: "Although Scotland's national football team did well this year, the greatest moment was the Scotland rugby team winning the Calcutta Cup over our old rivals. It was a shame it was at an empty Twickenham stadium.. It's good to see out an old year with a smile."
