Rangers handed transfer advice over exciting star as pundit makes 'a big part next season' statement

Rangers legend Barry Ferguson believes Alex Lowry could save his former club a 'fortune' in the summer transfer window.

The Scotland youth international impressed during a cameo appearance from the bench in Sunday's 2-0 Premiership win over Dundee United.

It came off the back of four impressive displays already in 2022 and a new contract signed until 2025 on Saturday.

English Premier League big guns Newcastle United and Manchester City were reportedly interested in his services but he will stay at Ibrox long-term.

Lowry has formed part of the squads that have taken Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men to the Europa League and Scottish Cup finals, with Ferguson recognising his potential.

Alongside fellow academy product Leon King who shone in defence during Sunday's win, the former midfielder reckons Rangers could opt to promote the duo to regular minutes instead of signing fresh faces.

He told Go Radio: "It's exciting times for Rangers fans. When you look at these young boys who played yesterday, Leon King starting the game, the future is bright.

"Even at that age I can see those two being a big part next season. King and Lowry could save you an absolute fortune.

"They've got the right manager and if they show the right attitude - they've certainly got the potential and the ability - they will get the opportunity to play."
