Rangers handed Europa League boost as luckless Antwerp face Ibrox goalkeeper crisis

Antwerp could face Rangers with their third choice goalkeeper between the posts after Alireza Beiranvand suffered another injury.

The Iranian had to be taken off in the first leg in Belgium, with Steven Gerrard's side coming out on top in a 4-3 thriller.

Beiranvand made a howler for Joe Aribo's opener, and was only in because Jean Butez is sidelined with an ankle injury.

And it appears Antwerp will have to turn to third choice Ortwin De Wolf with the backup suffering a fresh injury.

"It's a different injury than the one he got against Rangers in the first leg. The first injury was an adductor muscle strain and this one happened at the top of his thigh.

"It's pure coincidence and his bad luck he had to leave two games in a row through injury.

"It's unlikely he will be ready for Glasgow, but we will give him every chance.

"On the bright side, we were able to bring back Dieumerci Mbokani from injury. He hadn't trained much before the match, but even when he is fully fit he doesn't train much anyway!

"I saw a lack of pace, rhythm and intensity, but that is not unusual three days after such an intense European game.

"Perhaps I should have rotated the team more. I'll take that into account in the future."
