Matthew Shiels has revealed he can be Hamilton's utility man this season because he is willing to play anywhere for the team.
The 21-year-old, who was signed by by Brian Rice at the end of last season, has told new gaffer Stuart Taylor that he will be able to give him plenty of options this term.
And it's not a without foundation, as the former Rangers youngster showed during his days coming through the youth ranks at Ibrox.
Shiels has striking prowess, having been the top scorer for the under-18s during his spell at Rangers, and believes he can do a job in his more orthodox left-back role, as well as on the left wing.
He has spent the last 10 months on the sidelines through injury, but is now firmly on the comeback trail ahead of Hamilton hosting Ayr in the Championship this afternoon.
And he revealed his new boss is keeping his options open when it comes to finding the right role in the squad.
Shiels told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "He [Taylor] has not really said to me where I'll play. He's put it on me to see where I prefer to play.
"To be fair, over the past few years I've played in many positions.
"I used to be a winger when I was at Rangers in the under-18s. I'd play left-wing and eventually I played up front.
"That season I was the top scorer in the league, but the season after I ended up at left-back.
"At first, it was a strange one to me, but I feel left-back does suit me now, although I do feel I could still go and play left-wing or even right-wing if I needed to.
"I'm happy to play anywhere. If it gets me a game, that's great.
"I was scoring every week with the reserves and in the Glasgow Cup final I scored against Celtic.
"I've been used to playing on the wing and I said that to the gaffer, so he knows what I can do.
"In training I have been playing between left-back and left-wing, just giving it a go, to see what feels best."
Shiels has been a frustrated figure watching from the sidelines as Accies picked up their first win of the season at the end of last month with a 2-1 win at Queen of the South, but followed that up with a 4-0 defeat to Arbroath last week in their next league outing.
Looking to today's clash with the Honest Men, Shiels said: "It has been a mixed start for us.
"The result last week was tough, but we came in on Sunday looked at what we did wrong, where we could improve and started looking to the Ayr game.
"It will be a tough game.
"There's a lot of good teams in this league, so all we can do is prepare well and hopefully get the result."
