Rangers 'greatly frustrated' by Lyon ticket fiasco as police concerns mean fans continue to be left in dark

Rangers have told confused supporters they STILL have no information on the ticket allocation for the club's Europa League clash against Lyon — just 10 days before the game.

Last week the club ensured fans they were seeking answers from their Ligue 1 counterparts despite rumours of a sizeable 3,000-strong away section.

Rangers stormed into the knockout rounds by brushing aside Sparta Prague 2-0 at Ibrox on Thursday and with Lyon having already topped the group it means the final match won't be of any consequence in terms of the final Group A standings.

But it will be important to the thousands of supporters who have registered an interest in travelling to France, with some even booking travel and accommodation already.

The hold-up is due to a lack of clarity around the local police force's ability to manage the travelling crowd on the day.

An update to supporters read: "After engaging with Lyon and the local authorities in France, we are currently unable to provide clarity on the ticketing allocation for our away support.

"This is of great frustration. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are yet to receive confirmation from police as to their ability to adequately resource the operation required to facilitate our travelling support in Lyon.

"Although we have raised concerns regarding supporters who have already made travel arrangements for this fixture, we are yet to receive a clear answer regarding travel advice and ticketing.

"This is particularly frustrating as Lyon allocated our away tickets before issues were raised by the local authorities.

"We will continue to engage with Lyon, French authorities and UEFA to provide clarity on this issue. Having received feedback from our support, we share your frustration and will endeavour to seek a resolution at the earliest possible time."

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon meanwhile has called on PM Boris Johnson to increase quarantine for international arrivals to eight days amid uncertainty around the Omicron variant of Covid-19, which if actioned could affect travelling fans' journey.
