Rangers granted Slavia Prague exemption as Europa League clash dodges strict Czech rules

Rangers have been given an travel exemption to allow their first leg with Slavia Prague to go ahead as planned.

A huge spike in coronavirus cases saw the Czech Republic introduce a strict lockdown this week, raising questions over whether the game could be played at Eden Arena.

Travel restrictions have forced other Europa League matches to be played at neutral venues, with Manchester United taking on Real Sociedad in Turin having been barred from travelling to Spain.

The new Czech restrictions mean any arrivals from the UK must quarantine on arrival.

However, Steven Gerrard 's squad WILL be granted permission to fly to Prague as planned, with the Czech government granting an exemption.

Slavia vice-president Tomas Syrovatka confirmed: "Rangers have received from the Ministry of Health a confirmation that entry will be allowed to the Czech Republic in order to play the Europa League match with Slavia.

"Thank you very much (to the authorities)."

Rangers will have to adhere to strict hygiene measures while in the country, as well as spending as little time as possible in the Czech Republic.

The game will bee played on Thursday March 11 with no fans in attendance, with Gerrard and his squad expected to fly in on the Wednesday and leave shortly after the game.
