Rangers given fresh update on Bayer Leverkusen plan as Europa League re-start gathers speed

Rangers have been given an update on UEFA's plans to re-start the Europa League.

Steven Gerrard's side are still to play the second leg of their last 16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen after losing 3-1 to the Germans at Ibrox in March.

UEFA hope to finish the Europa League and Champions League and with major European leagues such as the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A set to resume their campaigns in June, the governing body now have the go ahead to put plans in place to complete their two flagship tournaments.

Getafe president Angel Torres outlined UEFA's plans for both competitions moving forward. No date has been set, but there has been talk about an August re-start.

Torres told Spanish outlet Cadena COPE: "UEFA's idea is to play the Champions League and Europa League, starting from the quarter-finals, across one match in one venue although nothing has been confirmed yet.

"They will come to a decision on June 17 (when the executive committee meets)."
