Rangers given extra pre-season fixture as English opposition line up Gers friendly

Burnley have announced they will play Rangers in a pre-season friendly.

Steven Gerrard’s team face a hectic few weeks as they prepare to defend their Scottish Premiership title and try and qualify for the group stages of the Champions League.

A glamour tie against Arsenal at Ibrox is already confirmed for this Saturday, but first up the Gers will face the Clarets Under 23 side.

Rangers already had six games pencilled in before facing Livingston in the season curtain raiser on 31 July.

A win against Partick Thistle at Firhill last week was followed up with a disappointing defeat to Tranmere Rovers on Merseyside.

Next up are Burnley and Arsenal before a glamour game against Real Madrid in Glasgow.

The Light Blues then welcome Brighton to Govan in their final pre-season fixture before the serious action gets underway.

It’s likely to be a team mostly made of youth players that takes on the Clarets, although some first team players may be involved.

A statement on Burnley’s website read: "Former Tranmere and Shrewsbury boss Michael Jackson is in temporary charge of the squad, which will be based at Stirling University, following Steve Stone’s move up to become first-team coach.

"Jackson, along with Andy Farrell, will lead the team against a Rangers’ side at the Scottish champions’ training ground on Wednesday afternoon."
