Rangers given Europa League boost as Antwerp suffer star striker blow ahead of crunch Ibrox tie

Royal Antwerp will travel to Glasgow to fight for a place in the last 16 of the Europa League without top striker Dieumerci Mbokani.

The experienced frontman returned to domestic action at the weekend but has had a reaction and is out of tomorrow’s second leg clash with Rangers at Ibrox with a calf injury.

It is a blow to manager Franky Vercauteren, as he had hoped to call on Mbokani to help Antwerp overturn last week’s 4-3 home defeat.

The 35-year-old returned as a second half substitute in the goal-less weekend clash with STVV.

The former Monaco and Anderlecht star will now remain in Belgium to get treatment.

Antwerp welcome back Cameroon international forward Didier Lamkel Ze from suspension and he will lead the line against Rangers.

Iranian keeper Alireze Beiranvand, who came off against Steven Gerrard’s team last week, has been declared fit and named in Royal Antwerp’s travelling party.

Defender Abdoulaye Seck is suspended for tomorrow evening after his red card last Thursday.
