Rangers get their wish as SPFL announce EGM over season-ending vote WILL take place

The SPFL have announced they will hold an EGM next month in the wake of Rangers' demands for a full inquiry into the league-ending voting controversy.

The Ibrox side have made it clear they will provide evidence at an "appropriate time" over alleged wrongdoing from the league body and they have been supported by both Hearts and Stranraer.

Rangers insist the SPFL still have a case to answer despite auditors Deloitte clearing the league body of any wrongdoing in the wake of the controversial vote in which Dundee flip-flopped from a no to a yes on calling time on the campaign below the Premiership.

And now the Glasgow side will get the chance to present their evidence on May 12 after previously calling for chief executive Neil Doncaster to be suspended.

Up to 75 per cent of member clubs must support a full inquiry - with nine of 12 from the Premiership, eight out of 10 from the Championship and 15 out of 20 from Leagues One and Two.

The announcement from the SPFL comes just 24 hours after Rangers' latest statement insisting the time was now for the league to lay out the details of the vote that called time on the season in the Championship, League One and League Two.

The statement on Sunday said: "There are key issues to be discussed and agreed within Scottish football including the circumstances and dates on which football can resume, the health and safety of all involved and the financial implications for members.

"It is vital that those involved in making those decisions have the confidence and support of member clubs. An independent investigation provides a route to achieving this.

"It has always been Rangers’ intention to produce our evidence at the appropriate time. The evidence will be provided to all member clubs well in advance of a general meeting to approve an independent investigation."
