Rangers get John Lundstram boost as Sheffield United reveal January transfer plan

Rangers-linked Jon Lundstram could be set for a January exit from Sheffield United with the English Premier League club to listen to offers.

The midfielder has rejected The Blades’ final contract offer and rather than losing him for nothing in the summer, Chrs Wilder is prepared to listen to offers in January.

Rangers were heavily linked with a move for the midfielder throughout the summer, but their chances of a winter switch may be better with the clock ticking on Lundram’s deal.

Yorkshire Live report that the club could be open to doing business when the transfer window opens in a couple of weeks’ time.

Wilder confirmed there hadn’t been any enquiries for the former Everton youngster, but clubs will likely now be on alert if they feel they can strike a cut price deal to take Lundstram away from Bramall Lane.

Crystal Palace and Brighton are also thought to be interested, but would have to wait until May to open contract talks, which could work in Rangers’ favour.

Steven Gerrard has plenty of midfield options currently at Ibrox, but Lundstram’s calibre and elite level experience could prove tempting, and his addition would preempt any interest in or moves for Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo.

Despite looking certain to head for the exit door, the former England Under 20 international has remained a regular in red and white this season, scoring once in 11 appearances.

Speaking last month, Wilder admitted the situation wasn’t ideal and that he’d love the player to stay.

He said: “It’s not an ideal situation and I want ideal situations.

“I’d love John to stop.

“Whoever I pick, they’ll go out there. Whatever happens, there’s no downside to John going out there and doing well.”
