Rangers get Gheorghe Hagi seal of approval as he lifts lid on son Ianis' Genk misery

Gheorghe Hagi is adamant son Ianis and Rangers are a perfect match.

The Romanian icon's made his debut for Steven Gerrard's side off the bench during Saturday's stalemate with Aberdeen.

Father and son shared discussions over a move to Ibrox and now Hagi senior has declared the move has his seal of approval.

And he insists his boy is now a star in his own right despite a difficult spell in Belgium with Genk.

He said: "I try not to speak too much about Ianis because I think it's important he goes and has a career on his own without me talking about him all the time.

"What I will say is that what happened with Genk had nothing to do with him. When he did get to play there, he showed he was one of their best players.

"I am pleased he's gone to a club where he can play. It's a good move for him.

"I want him to be happy, continue to improve and enjoy his career and I think he can do that in Scotland.

"I want to point out why he is now a star in his own right. During Romania's match against Spain in November, I was in the stands and a boy came up to me and asked for my autograph,

"When I gave him it, he was delighted because he told everyone he had just got an autograph from Ianis Hagi's father!

"That made me happier than anything."
