Rangers get Europa League boost as Galatasaray star Arda Turan is ruled out of Ibrox clash after suffering 'flu symptoms'

Galatasaray have suffered a major blow as Arda Turan will miss their vital Europa League play-off with Rangers.

The 33-year-old has been isolated from the Fatih Terim’s squad because he has a heavy flu and high fever.

The Galatasaray team have done their COVID-19 checks and they are all clear, but Turan will not travel to Glasgow.

The Turkish international, who has won 100 caps, is still a big player and his absence is a big blow to his side.

Turan has played at Barcelona and Atletico Madrid before he returned to Galatasaray earlier this year.

Gala felt it was too big a risk for Turan to travel as he could have passed symptoms on to other team mates, ahead of a game that will see the winners make the Europa League group stages.

A Galatasaray statement confirmed: "The Covid-19 PCR tests conducted by our club this morning (Tuesday, September 29) for the players of the Galatasaray Football Team, our technical delegation, performance, health, administrative and support staff were negative.

"Arda Turan, whose Covid-19 PCR test result is negative and his lung tomography is clean, will not be included in our delegation that will go to Glasgow for the Rangers match in the UEFA Europa League due to complaints of flu infection and high fever."
