Rangers get by Devils on Mika Zibanejad's overtime winner

NEWARK, N.J. _ With time winding down in the second period and holding a two-goal lead, it appeared that the Rangers would skate out of Prudential Center with another road win.

But for the third consecutive game, the Rangers pushed it to overtime, and Mika Zibanejad scored at 1:16 for a 4-3 win over the Devils.

Antti Raanta had just stopped Kyle Palmieri, who had two goals in the game, before the play went up ice and Brady Skjei found Zibanejad, who won the last game against Toronto with a shoot-out goal, and ended it.

The Devils had scored twice in the first 1:14 of the third period to erase a 2-1 deficit. But Adam Clendening knotted the game at 3 with a low point shot with 4:25 left in regulation.

Cory Schneider had kept the Devils in the game after Chris Kreider's deflection of Dan Girardi's point shot went up and over him at 6:40 of the first period and Oscar Lindberg made it 2-0 on the rush from the left circle after Jesper Fast's faked slapshot and pass from the right side at 17:32.

Schneider stopped all 17 shots he faced in the second, and Antti Raanta was finally beaten on Adam Henrique's wraparound with 1:32 left. Still, the Rangers had been outshot 9-3 midway through the first period, but by the end of 40 minutes, led in shots 27-26.

The wheels came off quickly for the Rangers as the Devils scored twice in 1:14 to open the third.

Raanta, who had blanked the Devils on Dec. 11 on 19 shots, was beaten by Kyle Palmieri just 27 seconds into the third on a pass from Travis Zajac. And with Kreider in the box for a delay of game for clearing the puck over the glass, Raanta was screened by Miles Wood and Palmieri scored again, tipping Andy Greene's long shot for a 3-2 lead on a power play at 1:14. Coach Alain Vigneault challenged the call on the ice, citing goaltender interference, but a review upheld the goal.

It was the fourth consecutive game that the Rangers had faced a goaltender bringing his best. In Toronto, Fredrick Andersen was very good, but lost in a shootout 2-1. Carey Price was terrific in Montreal's 3-2 shootout win. And Philip Grubauer was strong in a 2-1 Rangers win over the Capitals on Feb. 19.
