Rangers game is perfect for me to make an impact, says Motherwell winger Steven Lawless

Steven Lawless ended a nightmare spell at Burton Albion by signig an 18-month deal at Motherwell, and hopes to get the chance to gun down Rangers on Sunday.

The 29-year-old former Livingston and Partick Thistle winger admits he hasn't played much, but says he's ready for whenever boss Graham Alexander needs him.

But he would love nothing other than helping his new side inflict a first Premiership defeat on leaders Rangers on his Fir Park debut.

He said: "I couldn't have picked a harder game to come into, but this place has always been hard for the Old Firm so that's what we try to do.

"It's a bit different with no fans here but we still need to make this a difficult place and make it as hard as possible for them.

"We know they're a good team, they're obviously doing really well this year, but we need to focus on ourselves.

"This is a hard place for anyone to come, especially the Old Firm and I've noticed that over the years.

"When I was here I watched the Old Firm come and struggle, so that's what we will try to do.

"We'll make it as hard as possible, and hopefully pick up a positive result."

Lawless this morning returned to the club that started his career in 2009, and although the move was initiated by former boss Stephen Robinson, the winger, who had two loan spells at Albion Rovers between 2010 and 2012, says he had a lengthy chat with Alexander.

He said: "I woudn't have come if he didn't want me. The last thing you want to do is come into a club when you're not a manager's signing, but he's obviously got final say on everything here, so that was a big thing for me, making sure the manager wanted me.

"I wouldn't just be coming here to make up numbers, I want to go out on the park and make an impact."
