Rangers fly in for Berlin transfer summit as signings take centre stage amid van Bronckhorst waiting game

Rangers will be represented at a major signing summit this week amid mounting pressure over manager Gio van Bronckhorst.

Record Sport understands an Ibrox representative checked into TransferRoom's Berlin convention with meetings with other European clubs set for both Monday and Tuesday. Sporting director Ross Wilson is a long-time backer of the transfer trading market and has previously attended.

TransferRoom – labelled the speed dating of football – sees decision-makers from the world's biggest clubs meet in person for multiple 15-minute meetings to discuss incomings and outgoings. And Rangers' plans appear unmoved despite mounting speculation over their manager's future. A clutch of Scottish Premiership clubs are heading to the German capital to talk moves with interested parties. Aberdeen, Dundee United, Motherwell and Hibs are also scheduled to be in attendance.

Rangers will be keenly aware of the need for a rousing January window whoever is in the dugout. The Ibrox side trail Celtic by nine points and the summer captures of the likes of Rabbi Matondo and Ridvan Yilmaz have yet to yield results. And fellow arrivals Tom Lawrence, John Souttar and Ben Davies have been cursed by a rotten run of injuries which has reduced their impact.

Potential new recruits will be richly welcomed by Rangers punters, however, many followers are keenly awaiting an update on van Bronckhorst. Record Sport revealed the 47-year-old has returned to his homeland amid the wait for a definitive resolution over what comes next for the Dutchman. A sizeable section of the club's fans believe his time is up but the break for the World Cup allows the Rangers board to take stock as they trail Celtic by nine points and suffered the worst ever Champions League campaign in history.
