Rangers flop Carlos Pena on pub watch as desperate president makes plea to fans

The president of Rangers flop Carlos Pena's new club has begged supporters to call him if they see the former Mexico international in the pub.

The ex-Ibrox midfielder ended a 16-month footballing exile by joining Correcaminos last month and his president is full of praise for his behaviour since.

Pena turned 30 last week and is looking to get his career back on tract after a disastrous few years.

After being released by Rangers, he joined Polish side GKS Tychy but never kicked a ball after a dispute over wages.

Pena's contract at Ibrox was terminated by mutual consent after two disastrous loan spells in Mexico blighted by alcohol problems.

And Correcaminos president, Miguel Mansur, has underlined the unusual way he can guarantee Pena keeps on track in Mexico.

He said: "When he signed him, I was very clear with him and warned him we'd be watching him. He won't relapse here because of the fans.

"Here in Ciudad Victoria, the people will look after him and protect him.

"I did a forum with the fans when he signed and told them that if any of them spotted him in a bar or drinking, they had to go straight to me immediately and tell me.

"Do you know how many fans have contacted me since then? None.

"He is committed to football and this club. He loves his family too and I believe he is more settled now than he's ever been.

"Carlos is a leader in the dressing room and it's a privilege to work with him."

Pena played just 14 times for Rangers after joining while Pedro Caixinha was manager in 2017.

He scored five goals against Dundee, Partick Thistle, St Johnstone and Aberdeen.
