Rangers flag day dampened as Motherwell earn deserved point

Kaiyne Woolery grabbed a second half equaliser for Motherwell to spoil Rangers' flag day party at Ibrox.

The Steelmen arrived in Govan knowing a win would take them top of the table and they gave the defending Premiership champions and league leaders a real run for their money, as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sadly, the Fir Park faithful were denied an allocation for the match, but they will have been dancing in the Cooper Bar back home in ML1, where the game was streamed live for supporters.

Fashion Sakala broke the deadlock after 12 minutes when he nodded home from an offside position following Joe Aribo's flick on from a James Tavernier corner.

While Rangers dominated possession and threatened to add to their tally, Graham Alexander's side dug in and clawed themselves back into the game with a goal their play deserved.

Van Veen - who backed 'Well to spoil the party before the match - slipped in Mark O'Hara and when he made a surging run into the box, he was challenged and the ball fell kindly for Woolery to poke the ball high past Allan McGregor.

Following draws for Hibs and Hearts yesterday, it means there is no change to the top four in the Premiership, with 'Well staying fourth and two points off Rangers going into next week's clash with Ross County.

Celtic's shock defeat to Livingston leaves them in sixth spot and Dundee United in fifth.
