Rangers fired Europa League warning as gutted Leverkusen boss sets lofty target

Fed-up Bayer Levekusen boss Peter Bosz has vowed to end his side's second-best run by lifting the Europa League.

Rangers face the German side next month in their rescheduled Round of 16, second leg tie trailing 3-1 from the first leg at Ibrox in March, with the venue expected to be announced this week.

Leverkusen 's nearly men tag remains after a 4-2 defeat to holders B ayern Munich in the Berlin final - they have won one domestic trophy in their history, but have now been runners-up in the Bundesliga and Cup eight times.

But Dutch coach Bosz is eager to make up for it by winning the Europa League, when they return to training on July 23. ahead of the second leg against Steven Gerrard 's side on either August 5 or 6.

He said: "This defeat is a huge disappointment. We have to cope with that first, but after the holiday, we prepare immediately for the Europa League game against Rangers.

"We can still achieve a lot in that competition.

"We had a plan against Bayern because we knew that they always start very aggressively and put a lot of pressure on. That should have given us plenty of room, but it's easy to say that after the game.

"The whole team played well in the second half, but Bayern were the better team over 90 minutes."

And Leverkusen skipper Lars Bender admitted inexperience may have cost them.

He said: "Maybe you could tell that it was the first final for a few of our players.

"We had plenty of opportunities too, but we lacked courage, trust and experience in the first half and when you go behind to a team like Bayern, it's really tough."
