Rangers FC communications chief attacked and injured by two yobs

POLICE are hunting for two yobs who attacked and injured Rangers communications chief Jim Traynor in broad daylight last week when he was out walking his dogs.

The pair hurled “sectarian” abuse then threw a stone at Airdrie resident Mr Traynor, 66, who suffered a facial injury in the incident.

The attack took place near Cumbernauld last Wednesday afternoon and the two thugs ran off in the direction of Palacerigg Golf Club.

A source said: “He was set upon by two thugs shouting sectarian abuse.

“It was an outrageous attack. The guy was minding his own business and they just appeared and targeted him on the street.

“It’s disgraceful that this could happen.”

Police described the suspects as being in their early 20s and wearing dark clothing with baseball caps and snoods.

A spokesperson for Cumbernauld police office said: “Officers received reports at 3.15pm on Wednesday of a 66-year-old man having been assaulted near Stirling Road.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time.

“If anyone near the golf club saw anyone fitting this description, please contact us.”

Mr Traynor was appointed the Ibrox club’s PR boss in late 2012, after leaving his role as sports editor at the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser's sister paper the Daily Record.
