Rangers fans will take part in minute's applause in memory of tragic Kyle Monteith

Rangers fans are being urged to take part in a minute’s applause during this weekend’s game, in memory of tragic Blantyre man Kyle Monteith.

Kyle (20) was found dead in the town’s Station Road on November 7. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Now, supporters are expected to pay their respects to the young Light Blues fan during the 20th minute of the Scottish Premiership clash against Hearts at Ibrox on Sunday.

Kyle’s heartbroken girlfriend Elle Jean is understood to have had a hand in making the minute’s applause possible.

She recently posted on social media: “Rangers vs Hearts game on the 1st December, there will be a minute’s applause on the 20th minute of the game in memory of Kyle Monteith.”

The news was also spread on supporters’ website rangersnews.uk

Earlier this month, Kyle’s devastated mum Keli Louise Alexander asked his friends and family to don red, white and blue at his funeral, which took place on November 15.

In a further touching gesture, more than 600 people attended a balloon release at Blantyre’s Kirkton Park in memory of Kyle just days after his death.

They also looked on as fireworks lit up the night sky.

And on Remembrance Sunday, ahead of Blantyre Vics Amateur Football Club’s fixture, players and officials observed a minute’s silence for both Kyle and the country’s fallen war heroes.

His devastated mum had earlier described Kyle as “caring, loving and kind-hearted”.

Keli Louise Alexander (42) told the Advertiser: “Kyle – my Bubba – was my beautiful boy who grew into a caring, loving, kind-hearted young man.

“He was my everything; so completely daft at times, always full of fun and winding me up – a complete joker.

“He was so loved by everyone who knew him and he will be deeply, sorely missed.”

Kyle was Keli’s only child and she added: “What happened to my boy was completely out of character and it has been a massive shock to us all.

“I still can’t believe that I will never see my gorgeous boy again.”
