Rangers fans to hold minute's applause after death of Wishaw teen on New Year's Day

Rangers fans are being urged to hold a minute's applause for a 15-year-old killed in a road crash on New Year's Day .

Steven Mcilquham, from Wishaw , Lanarkshire, passed away after being struck by a grey Volkswagen car on Alexander Street, at its junction with Marshall Street, at around 9.30pm on New Year's Day .

The schoolboy, who was a huge Rangers fan , was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and released pending further investigation.

A report on the incident will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Supporters of the Ibrox club are now urging their fellow fans to remember Steven by clapping on the 15th minute of their next game, which takes place on January 17 against Stranraer in the Scottish Cup.

In a post on a Rangers fans Facebook page, Wilma Owen wrote: "This young lad Steven Mcilquham 15 lost his life in Wishaw on New Year's Day in a Road Traffic Accident.

"For everyone going to the first game back if you could have a minute applause on the 15th minute please as he loved Rangers.
