Celtic got their hands on the first trophy of the season at Hampden with a comeback victory over Hibs.
But with Ange Postecoglou ’s side tied up on duty at the National Stadium, Rangers took the chance to stretch their cinch Premiership lead to seven points after squeezing past Dundee United 24 hours earlier at Ibrox.
John Bruce said: “After an experimental first half, Giovanni van Bronckhorst made the changes to ensure that Rangers won a game that Dundee United never looked remotely like winning.
“With a seven-point lead on the board, the pressure is all on Celtic to win their games to try to make up the difference before the gap becomes a chasm – just like last year.”
Joe Graham, Garrowhill, said: “Not one of Rangers ’ most-convincing wins but still a Gr8 win for Giovanni van Bronckhorst making it eight undefeated since taking over from Steven Gerrard.
“We have a lot to thank Gerrard for but since Gio’s arrival, we look a hungrier outfit that is now promising to bring home title 56.”
Not everyone was impressed with the performance at Ibrox and Ian Renton, Johnstone, said: “From the moment it kicked off, it was obvious that Rangers were treating this game as a training match, thinking that they could win it easily.
“If they continue with this attitude they can say goodbye to another league title. It was only when Scott Wright came on that there was any tempo to the game. Their passing game in defence is becoming a total bore.”
Celtic fan Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “After a week of Rangers fans boasting how great their team was under the new manager I decided to give them a watch on Saturday and what a laugh it was.
“They were woeful and Ianis Hagi’s Rabona and Ryan Kent’s fresh air dive were two of the most embarrassing things I’ve ever seen on a football park. We will clean them out on January 2.”
Championship side Kilmarnock binned Rugby Park manager Tommy Wright on Saturday just an hour after their clash with Dunfermline in Ayrshire was abandoned due to fog.
But Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, reckons it’s Killie owner Billy Bowie who doesn’t have the foggiest idea how to run the club.
He said: “What a shambles Kilmarnock have become under Bowie’s leadership. Relegated and now nowhere near good enough to get back up.
“This latest managerial sacking shows Bowie to be out of his depth. Former chairman Michael Johnston must be laughing up his sleeve after the shockingly ignorant treatment he received.”
Gordon McIlwraith, Kilmarnock, was straight to the point when he said: “Tommy Wright should have been given more time at Killie.”
While the Ayrshire outfit are faltering, part-time Arbroath have stormed to the top of the Championship.
Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, paid tribute to Dick Campbell’s Red Lichties and also had praise for the managerial skills of Paul Hartley in Scotland’s third tier.
He said: “Remarkable Arbroath on top in the Championship with the wily veteran in charge.
“Cove Rangers are also way in front in League One under Hartley, a manager other clubs may be having a good look at.”
