Rangers fans sent Scottish Cup plea as Cove launch virtual ticket sale with priceless '55' keepsake up for grabs

Cove Rangers have sent out a plea to fans to snap up virtual tickets for the upcoming Scottish Cup tie against Rangers at Ibrox.

The closed-door match in Govan would normally be a tremendous money-spinner for the Aberdeen club, who have emerged as promotion candidates during their first ever season in League One but are six points behind league leaders Falkirk.

With the match also being shown live on Premier Sports next Sunday, Cove have asked fans for a £10 donation to the club to guarantee entry into a range of prize draws.

There's something in it for Rangers supporters too, as their opponents promised signed match-worn shirts from both teams.

That's a potential way for Ibrox diehards to get their hands on some priceless memorabilia from the Premiership winning campaign - and 15 per cent of the proceeds will also go to the NHS.

Cove said: "In normal circumstances, a cup tie of this standing would have generated substantial income for a club like ours. It is therefore hugely disappointing we will be unable to capitalise upon this fantastic cup draw in the traditional manner.

"However, we are still eager to capture the magic of the Scottish Cup, and we hope, with your generous support, the club can benefit from this match as we continue to navigate this financially turbulent period.

"Finally, we would like to extend a warm thanks to Rangers FC who, from the outset, have approached this cup-tie in a collaborative and engaging manner and their support of this initiative is greatly appreciated by all at Cove Rangers FC."

The virtual ticket initiative mirrors a similar initiative from Inverness, who received over 10,000 donations for their Championship match with Hearts despite it being shown on BBC Scotland.
