Rangers fans' Leverkusen scheme foiled as Bundesliga club get wise to cheeky Europa League plan

Cheeky Rangers fans thought they'd found a way to ensure tickets for their Europa League second leg in Germany - only to be foiled by Bayer Leverkusen.

Steven Gerrard 's side face the Bundesliga outfit at Ibrox next week, before heading to Westphalia for the second leg a week later.

The BayArena has a capacity of around 30,000 and tickets for the away section are sure to be like gold dust.

Some enterprising Rangers fans thought they'd found a way around that though.

By simply registering with a few simple details on Leverkusen's website, fans can buy up to 10 tickets for home matches.

That led to Gers fans simply signing up and buying up blocks of tickets, trying to get as close to the away support as possible.

It appears though that their subterfuge wasn't quite clever enough - possibly because many posted about it on social media, or registered using their Scottish names and addresses.

An email was later sent out by Bayer Leverkusen to hundreds of Gers fans: "Dear Mr/Mrs/Ms,

"The Bayer04-Club membership is only for fans of Bayer04 Leverkusen and not for Glasgow Rangers fans. Your money will be transferred back to you.

"We hope you understand that we have to focus on our security measures. An intermixture of both fan groups isn't recommendable.

"If you want to purchase tickets for the match, please contact Glasgow Rangers instead."

The politeness mixed with ruthless efficiency you'd expect from one of Germany's finest clubs.
