Rangers fans 'hit with truncheons by Danish riot police' before Brondby game

Rangers fans were 'hit by Danish riot police' ahead of their team's Europa League match against Brondby on the outskirts of Copenhagen.

It's reported cops waded into a large group of travelling fans outside the stadium about 90 minutes prior to kick-off.

Supporters are said to have suffered head and face injuries during the violent incident, which has been labelled by one Rangers fan as 'terrifying'.

The Light Blues supporter, who travelled to the Scandinavian city with a group of friends, told the Daily Record: “I have never been so scared in my life.

“The police have been leathering everyone with their truncheons.

“It’s disgraceful. Everything was good natured in the build-up to the match.

“I don’t know what happened. The police appeared to just start hitting supporters.

“My face is burst but there’s guys with other head injuries.

“It’s an absolute disgrace, they weren’t holding back.”

UPDATE: A spokesman for West Copenhagen police later advised: "There was a group of away fans who did not have a regulated ticket to the stadium, who tried to enter. In that connection, there was a bit of a commotion, and the police had to pull batons and they were also used. In this connection, we can confirm that at least one person has been arrested for violence with the police.

"Before and after the episode, we sent out a series of tweets addressed to the fans who not had regulated ticket to Brondby Stadium."
