Rangers fans hit the Hotline to demolish £100m Celtic claim as calculators at dawn in bonkers rammy

Celtic fans are starting to look on the bright side when it comes to Jota’s departure for the Middle East – such as the wads of cash they’ll get in return.

Yesterday’s Hotline has Hoops fans claiming their side are sitting on around £100m worth of talent.

But Rangers supporters are less than convinced. Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “I see the delusion ones are out in force again with claims the Gallowgate Globetrotters have multiple players worth more than £25 million Who would have thought all those great displays against Aberdeen and Kilmarnock would mean so much. They haven’t won a game in Europe in nearly two whole years so they are not getting the valuations from there. Then again they did hit a post against Real Madrid. I’ll have a glass of whatever they’re on.”

Stephen Hendry emailed: “Got to laugh at Tam Williamson and Seamie Gallacher’s calls. They are more worried about Rangers than they are of their own team. Talking £100m for four players is outrageous. If that's the case then playing in a charity game yesterday must make me worth £10m!”

Some Gers fans are grudgingly impressed though.

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “Fair play to Celtic for making all this money on transfers. Their people saw the talent when they bought the players, it’s good business. As a Rangers fan I still compliment them.”

Jota’s move is the talk of the steamie and Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “So Gary Stephenson says Jota and Ange Postecoglou leaving shows Celtic have no loyalty? It’s known in the football world as getting better offers and moving on to bigger and better things like Steven Gerrard did? No one is leaving Rangers because no one wants any of your players.”

Rangers boss Michael Beale (PA)

Bill Lockerbie, Northampton, said: “Caller Gary Stephenson talks about loyalty and the speed of Jota upping sticks, which reminded me of the Scottish Cup semi final. Jota's winner had Gary and his loyal mates upping sticks from Hampden quicker than they could say, ‘not again’. Nice one Gary!”

A lot of fans can see about 10 million reasons a year why Jota is going. William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: “Get off Jota’s back. He’s been brilliant for us. What about other players who had bigger money moves earning nearly five times what Jota is going to be on but no one is saying a word about that. No hard feelings from me. Wish you weren't going but good luck.”

Gerard Kelly, via email, said: “If Jota goes, that's money in the bank for Celtic after only a couple of seasons. I remember when Morelos was being touted for £20m. At least we make money on our players.”

George McCallum, Falkirk, said: “It does not matter these players want to jump ship but what does matter is Celtic’s plan to replace them. I say bring it on.”

Rangers have been busy with incomings but Martin McGhee, via email, said: “Great to see Mick Beale signing all these brilliant players who can't get a game for their own team's benchwarmers. We will do what we have done for the last number of years – win.”

Meanwhile a young Scot is a man in demand and Neil Renton, Leith, said: “Well down to Verona star Josh Doig who seems set for a big money move to another Italian club. The former Hibs defender was brave to leave Scotland at a young age but he’s proving his doubters wrong.”
