Rangers fans hit the headlines in Australia as TV hosts left baffled by 'Live It Up' chart success

Rangers have made the headlines in Australia after fans adopted 'Live It Up' as an anthem.

The song, by Aussie band Mental As Anything, has risen up the UK charts as supporters push for it to be named Christmas Number One.

It became a hit with Rangers supporters following the 2-0 win over Celtic in October when fan group the Union Bears released a video of them posting images of Connor Goldson's goals around the city.

It came after their Celtic rivals had placed posters of previous Old Firm wins all over the city, and Rangers themselves even trolled Hoops fans after the game with a tweet saying: "Put that on a poster".

But now Ibrox fans are in the news in Australia with broadcasters baffled over why the Ibrox club have adopted the anthem and got it pushing up the charts.

The host said: “Now for a blast from the past, an Australian classic has risen to number one in the UK charts, 35 years after it was released.

“Live It Up by Mental As Anything has been adopted by the Scottish football club The Glasgow Rangers.

“Rangers fans are also hoping the song will take the coveted number one spot in the Christmas charts in two weeks time.”

Another confused presenter said: “How does it fit with Glasgow Rangers?

“How does the lyrics of that song fit? It’s about picking up a chick, in the 80s. It’s a great song.”

She then added: “I think we should all get behind Glasgow Rangers.”
