Rangers fans give Lee Wallace standing ovation as defender waves goodbye to Ibrox

Lee Wallace was given a standing ovation by Rangers fans as he made what could be his final appearance in light blue.

The Ibrox crowd rose to their feet as the defender came on against Aberdeen for only his third appearance of the season. The former Hearts man replaced Jermaine Defoe with five minutes left to play in the 2-0 victory against the Dons.

Meanwhile fans were heard chanting 'One Lee Wallace' during the brief cameo.

Wallace last featured for the Gers at McDiarmid Park on December 23 last year, one of only two appearances under Steven Gerrard this season.

Why a Lee Wallace Rangers farewell at Ibrox might not happen

The former skipper was suspended and ostracised by the club - along with Kenny Miller - for allegedly having a go at then manager Graeme Murty and speaking out in the dressing room following a 4-0 cup semi-final drubbing at the hands of Celtic last April.

The Scotland international won his appeal against a fine, but has since failed to enjoy a regular run in the first team since, finding himself as Steven Gerrard's fourth-choice left-back.

Lee Wallace not getting Rangers send-off would be a disgrace - latest podcast

In recent weeks many of the Rangers faithful, the majority of whom have backed a player who has appeared for the Ibrox club over 250 times, have been calling for Wallace to be given a proper send-off.

Today, he may just have got what he, and the supporters, wanted, as there was clear appreciation raining down from the stands.

In turn, Lee Wallace took time to return the gesture, applauding supporters in all four corners of the ground after what's likely to be the 31-year-old's final appearance before departing Govan this summer.
