John Kennedy has clearly riled up Rangers fans with his claim Celtic are still the best in the land but the Ibrox punters are convinced the interim gaffer will be ordering up humble pie this weekend.
It’s Old Firm Scottish Cup showdown week and the war of words is well under way before the battle for bragging rights.
George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “What nonsense coming from Kennedy that Celtic are superior to Rangers. Celtic haven’t been able to beat Rangers in the league since September 2019 nor at all since the December that year.
“Hibs have run Rangers close four times now this season and are the second best team in Scotland now to Rangers.
“The 20 points difference is a good reflection of how far Rangers are ahead at the moment.”
Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh, said: “Celtic fans better hope Rangers beat them twice or they are going to be stuck with Kennedy. A victory against Falkirk’s second string and a non trying Livingston and some think he’s turned the club around. Don’t forget he was one of the ones that have put the club in the shocking state they are.”
John Bruce emailed : “Celtic never learn do they? Score a few goals against a smaller team and they’re world-beaters – or the best team in the country according to Kennedy – only to fail, fail in their next big challenge.
“Which happens to be a cup game against league champions, Rangers.
“Let’s see how this team of self-proclaimed superstars get on against a Rangers team they’ve yet to beat this season – amongst others – and have only managed to score one goal against in three games.”
But Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “Rangers fans are fuming about Kennedy because they know its true. One freakish, no fans training trophy out of 14 to write about in their history pamphlet and they're suddenly Scotland’s best. Last season shouldn't even be recorded. Football without fans is nothing.”
Rangers notched up another win at the weekend as they beat Hibs.
But John Morgan, Armadale, said: “As much as I admire Steven Gerrard for what he has done, any time a team takes his team close, as Hibernian did on Sunday, he never praises the opposition, it’s always we did not play to our standards and nothing about the other team being just as good as them on the day.”
Although Alan McGaw, Alloa, said: “Well done Rangers maintained their 100 percent home record with a hard fought game. They scored two fantastic goals and hey just have the power to know when to win games even in second gear.”
Celtic hit six against Livi but the manager search goes on.
Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “I remember the days when anybody would walk bare feet to play for Celtic for nothing never mind manage them so why is it turning into a circus?”
There’s a royal funeral on Saturday and some Celtic fans copped it amid claims fireworks went off during the minute’s silence at the weekend.
Alan Milligan emailed : “Yet again they are the only club in Britain to embarrass themselves over the death of Prince Philip. When are the authorities going to take action against them?”
Derek Morris, Falkirk, said: “Now that the so called best fans in the world have disgraced their club and all decent people in this country again with their disgraceful conduct, while the country was paying their respects to the Duke of Edinburgh, will Dominic McKay have the courage to eject this lot for good? Peter Lawwell didn’t.”
