Rangers fan dies after 'contracting coronavirus' as tributes flood in for 'cracking guy'

Tributes have been paid to a Rangers fan who tragically died after reportedly contracting coronavirus.

Ryan Storrie, who was based over in Dubai, died at the age of just 40 after he suddenly took unwell.

He jetted back to Scotland to watch the Ibrox side take on Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League on March 12.

After becoming unwell Ryan, who is originally from Ardrossan, was unable to flying back to the Middle Eastern country.

Rangers online fan channel The Gers TV led tributes to the fan.

Writing on Facebook, they said: “I have just heard the sad news that one of our viewers, a friend, a fan and a loyal Orangeman Ryan Storrie has passed away.

“Aged only 40 and leaving behind a wife and young family due to Covid-19 virus.

“The Gers TV offers our sympathy to Ryan’s friends, family and lodge members.”

Scores of people have taken to social media to pay tribute to Ryan since the news of his death.

John Robb said: “Can't believe just heard a friend from growing up playing football with and going to see the famous Glasgow Rangers, was messaging you a few weeks ago when you were over from Dubai Ryan Storrie rest in peace mate - thoughts are with your family GBNF.”

Kyle Stewart wrote: “What a guy, I had the pleasure of being a member of the Dubai loyal with Ryan. He will be missed by everyone.”

Dee Stacy said: “I can’t believe this. What a cracking guy. Some great memories many moons ago.

“God love his wife and kids.

"Hearing this virus has taken one of our own makes it feel so very real now. Rest easy Ryan.”

Stephen McKenzie said: “Having grown up with Ryan in his home town, and with me being a massive Celtic fan, we would sometimes clash but in the best possible way.

"I would always end in a laugh and a joke with memories that will always last.”

It is unclear if Ryan had any underlying health conditions at the time of this death.
