Rangers fall further behind Celtic as Hamilton secure shock victory

Rangers were left kicking themselves as their post-Dubai slump continued with a shocking defeat against Hamilton Accies.

Brian Rice's side left Ibrox with a 1-0 victory thanks to a David Moyo goal on 56 minutes, preventing Rangers from cutting Celtic's lead at the top of the table.

Neil Lennon's men drew 2-2 at the Tony Macaroni Arena, with Rangers wasting the opportunity that slip up from the champions presented.

It was a golden opportunity for Rangers to breathe some life into the title race, but their horrendous domestic run since returning from the winter break continued with a 1-0 defeat at Ibrox against Hamilton Accies.

Some fans joined in a round of applause for beleaguered manager Steven Gerrard on the eighth minute, but they might not have been feeling so charitable as their side walked off the pitch with Celtic having extended their lead at the top of the table to 13 points.

Florian Kamberi came close to opening the scoring after 38 minutes, but his shot was saved by Accies keeper Luke Southwood.

Rangers had been the better side in the opening 45, but would ultimately rue their failure to finish chances. The first of two Rangers efforts to hit the bar came on 50 minutes, with the returning Alfredo Morelos heading against the woodwork.

Accies silenced Ibrox with the game's only goal six minutes later, with David Moyo converting the rebound after Marios Ogkmpoe hit the bar with a header.

The bar was struck yet again in the final minute, when Ianis Hagi's long-range effort took a deflection. Accies held out, though, and left Ibrox with a memorable win. There was further concern for Steven Gerrard as captain James Tavernier left the pitch late on with an injury.

The result means Brian Rice's men are back off the bottom of the table, leapfrogging a Hearts side who had beaten Hibs 24 hours earlier.

For Rangers, it's another nail in the coffin of a domestic season that has completely collapsed since the winter break.
